Narrator - Welcome to the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators, the Study Plan Development Webinar. This first section we will consider an overview of the GACE program. I am Rick Cullors, the ETS Client Relations Director for the state of Georgia and specifically for the GACE program. And looking at our first slide, one of the things that we’ll be talking about is answering the question, “What are the GACE assessments?” Well, it’s the State’s approved educator certification assessment program. And the purpose of this particular assessment? Program admissions, content, certification upgrade, which covers a number of different areas, as well as educational leadership and educator ethics, and it’s for the paraprofessional as well.

There are a few other things. It ensures that candidates meet the State standards for receiving their educator certification in the state of Georgia and the Commission or the GaPSC and ETS have worked together to develop and administer the GACE assessment.

So that raises a question. Who takes the GACE assessment and why? Well, first, individuals seeking admission into an educator preparation program, individuals seeking educator certification within the state of Georgia, and individuals seeking to become highly qualified in a core academic subject.

You may be wondering, how do candidates know which test to take? Well, if you are enrolled or seeking admission into a Georgia state-approved preparation program, your program provider will grant you the eligibility to take a particular test. If you have a different reason for testing, the Commission will grant you eligibility to test through your MyPSC account. The GaPSC or the Commission website provides information on which test to take for certification and there is the web address at www.gapsc.com. All tests in an assessment must be passed under the same testing supplier.
