Georgia Educator Ethics Assessment

Frequently Asked Questions About the Georgia Ethics Assessments

General

What are the Georgia Ethics assessments?

The Georgia Ethics assessments are a training and assessment program composed of a series of modules that combine instruction and testing. They are composed of two assessments:

  • the Georgia Educator Ethics assessment
  • the Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership assessment

The goal of these assessments is to help teachers and educational leaders become familiar with, understand, and apply the Georgia Code of Ethics for Educators, as well as comprehend and embrace the principles of ethical decision making in an educational context.

What is the format and length of each assessment?

Each assessment consists of seven interactive modules that instruct through video, gaming, and self-guided learning. Five of the modules include an end-of-module test with immediate feedback as well as an end-of-course, or summative, test.

Each module is designed to take no more than 30 minutes to complete; however, you may take as much time as you like.

See more information about taking the assessment.

Will I have to take the assessment to achieve certification?

Georgia Educator Ethics: Yes, with one exception. If you completed your state-approved educator preparation program by December 31, 2014, you are exempt from passing the Georgia Educator Ethics assessment if all certification application materials were received by the GaPSC’s Certification Division by March 1, 2015.

If you are a teacher candidate entering a state-approved traditional or non-traditional educator preparation program for an initial teaching field, you must also pass the Georgia Educator Ethics assessment (360) prior to completion of your program to achieve certification.

Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership: All candidates admitted (enrolled and taking classes) to any GaPSC-approved Educational Leadership program (non-tiered program or the new tiered model) on or after July 1, 2016, must pass the Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership assessment (380) prior to becoming enrolled. A candidate who completes this program entry requirement for Tier I, does not have to complete it again for Tier II.

All candidates completing any GaPSC-approved Educational Leadership program (non-tiered program or the new tiered model) on or after July 1, 2016, must pass Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership (380) prior to completion and must pass the assessment to earn certification in the field of Educational Leadership. A candidate who passes Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership for Tier I certification, does not have to pass it again for Tier II certification.

I was halfway through the assessment and for some reason I can no longer access the modules. What happened?

Why can't I play the videos?

Check the minimum hardware requirements to make sure you have a browser within the specifications listed and have the appropriate bandwidth.

Why is there no sound when I play the videos?

Check to make sure you have the sound enabled on your computer and that your speakers are on and the volume is turned up. For optimal sound, use headphones when viewing the videos included in each module.

Why can't I fast forward the videos?

You must view each video in its entirety, so the fast forward function is disabled during the first viewing. After you have viewed the entire video one time, the fast forward function will work.
